Christy Cruz
The Lipan Apache Tribe's Community Service Recognition |
Report from: Linda Walking Woman
Seventeen year-old tribal member, Christy Cruz, has raised over
$450 for Haiti Relief and has previously raised over $11,700 for
the Red Cross. Christy was devastated by the pain and suffering
in Haiti especially by the injuries and losses of children.
As a Lipan Apache member, she initiated a community effort to
raise money to aid the people of Haiti. Actively involved in her
high school’s academics, Color Guard, Symphonic Band, and ROTC and
as an ambassador for the Girl Scouts, Christy is a role model for
all Lipan Apache youths by her excellence in service and commitment
to academic accomplishment. We are proud of her engagement to help
in the local and global communities. Christy believes that there
are no such words as “I can’t do it” and attributes much of her
determination to the teachings of her great grandparents, as the
back bone of her family. She remembers her g-grandpa taught her
to never give up, never let others say you can’t, and make a difference
for our people and her g-granny taught her to move her brain towards
the sky, to come ahead, help others, and feed those who were hungry.
Christy says “this is for my people, my Lipan heritage.”
Great job, Christy!
