Waffle Gardens
The Zuni Pueblo developed the distinctive Waffle Gardens,
named for the pattern created by the plot preparation which
made the gardens look like giant waffles. The garden was
divided into rectangular pieces of land where crops like corn,
squash, and beans were planted.
The two players in this game will seed the Waffle
garden with their crops with Player 1 planting corn
and Player 2 planting squash. The players decide to
compete for each square of soil in the Waffle Garden.
They decide to claim garden squares by taking turns laying
down sticks around the squares. The Player who puts
down the third side on any square gets to claim the square
for his crop. When a square is won, the winning Player can continue
with another turn. The crop with the most won squares
wins the game. Have fun planting!
