Lipan Apache Little Breech Cloth Band's
Dak'éé Sí Fall Pow Wow
I pray all is well. As you know, it is pow wow time again. On October 26th we will be having our 49th Annual Dak'éé Sí Pow Wow
which will be at the Lark Community Center in McAllen Texas.
About the Pow Wow
As with our Spring pow wow, my family (Little Breech Cloth Band) and now the Lipan Apache Tribe have held these pow wows
publically for 49 years. But, historically, the Lipan Apache Little Breech Cloth Band (Poca Ropas) held them as private yearly
celebrations for any of
our Lipan Apache families since the turn of the 1900s. They were times to gather, catch-up, socialize, and celebrate
especially during hard times when our Apache
people were hunted.
These two annual Lipan pow wows are different than other pow wows in Texas and in the U.S. in that they are
part of our sacred history and traditions but adapted to include modern
Inter-tribal traditions and opened to also educate the general public.
A pow wow flyer and raffle ticket sheet are attached below.
We Need Your Help
The estimated cost for this pow wow is about $5,300 and at this time, we are almost there, but we still need about $700. We are trying to raise funds to pay it off and
you can donate one of two ways, raffle tickets or donations, mail-in or online. (Since major sponsors for this Fall pow wow include
McAllen Grace Brethern Church & Son Tree Native Path Ministries and the Lipan Apache Tribe,
you can donate or purchase tickets through either the Church's or the Tribe's non-profits to help. All donations are tax-deductible.)
About the Raffle & Donations
First of all, we have a raffle with five quality items donated by our members:
- A Traditional Woman's Shawl
- A 12-inch Hand Drum
- A Beaded Belt Buckle
- A 4-row Traditional Bone Choker
- A 12-inch Dream Catcher
Tickets are for one dollar, each with five chances of winning.
Overall, we are trying to get about 400 people to, at least, buy one sheet of 10 tickets for $10. Until the pow wow, a fundraising thermometer
indicating funds raised so far
will be posted bi-weekly on this page but more frequently as the pow wow day approaches. (Tickets can be bought up to the day
before the pow pow--Oct 26--if you use the online pay donate option and just let us know
through a note that you are buying raffle tickets.) If you mail in the tickets, take into account the time that the Post
Office takes to deliver mail from your home
Ticket mail-in addresses are listed belowon the tickets.
Two ways to purchase the tickets are:
- Print out a ticket sheet (see link below). Fill and mail with $10 per sheet to address on the ticket sheet; or,
- Purchase the tickets online at $10 per sheet through Son Tree Native Path at
the "Donate Now" page:
http://www.lipanapache.org/Donate_Now/Donate_Now.html. Include a note stating that the money is for "pow wow raffle tickets." We will fill the
sheet for you with your name and information.
Please consider helping us sell tickets to your family and friends. Print as many ticket sheets
as needed and take them to work, church, or family gatherings.
Second, we could also use your generous donations. You can give through either the tribe or the sponsoring church.
All donations are tax deductible. If you wish to donate for this you can do it through check or our online donation pages through the following:
