THIS IS....MY DESTINY
by Gloria De Leon
Five spaces I had to fill
no cost
two hundred miles four hours half moon
a beautifully star lit night
no companion
who would think … of all family
oh, but yes YOU were with me
Eustolia, Leon, PocaRopa, Victor, Yulcha, El Çabezon
As a new sun arises
Past, present, and future generations
Gather from far and near
We ARE Lipan Apache
Always there, always here
No voice .. to live … no voice .. to protect
Wait in anticipation for the gavel to proclaim
Not once … twice
The Peace Treaty revived
Did you hear the thunder in the rotunda
The celebration begins inside and out
Eyes sparkle hearts a pounding smile profoundly
C E L E B R A T E
Shout with all your might the Native calls
Did you see the clouds of smoke
Persistence .. gratitude of our souls
Dance, drums, song, gifts at the Capitol as destiny has it
On this day March 18, 2009
History long lost one hundred seventy one
Heritage denied but no more
Triumphant is my heart, my soul, my spirit
