National Purple Heart Day is celebrated on August 7th. This day is dedicated to remembering the Purple Heart award and honoring the brave individuals who have received it for their sacrifices in defending our freedoms. It also focuses on supporting those who have been injured and their families. On September 21, 2024, the Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas was honored to become the first tribe in Texas to be designated a Purple Heart Tribe. This honor was presented by the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) Alaniz-Valentine Chapter (Chapter 598) during the Lipan Apache Tribe’s Veterans Pow Wow in Corpus Christi, Texas. We encourage our tribe members to join MOPH 598 at their Ceremony & Grand Opening of the Purple Heart Exhibit on August 8, 2026, at the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History.
